One third of water pipes of India give water with increased content of iron, which contributes to the development of allergic reactions, diseases of the blood. Water from the underground sources, frequently cause hypertension, and stomach disorders. It has repeatedly been observed, that brown water flows out of tap.
This occurs after turning off of cold or hot water in steel tubes after prolonged use. The pipes made of steel get rusted, and actively corroded. As a result rust becomes a part of water pipe. Hardly anyone notices that they are drinking rusty water. We naturally “gulp down” this water. Assuming that letting flow water for sometime will wash off all this filth and which then can be used for bath, wash dishes and even to drink. But we forget about the danger not only that which is evident, but also that which is hidden from the eyes. The particles of rust (trivalent iron) are present in the tap water constantly. Indeed the content of iron and its compounds cannot be seen even in completely transparent by looking into water; it is present in smaller, in concentration that can cause a health hazard.
According to sanitary standards accepted the content of total iron in the tap water must not exceed 0.3 mg/l, indeed iron - this is heavy metal, and together with manganese, nickel, chromium, cadmium, lead and by copper it relates to the highly toxic substances. Often the content of iron in the water pipe exceeds standard into five by ten or more times. Prolonged use of water with the increased content of iron (more than 0.3 mg/l) causes the diseases of the liver and blood, allergic reactions, increases the risk of cardiac arrest, it negatively influences the reproductive function of organism. Also iron absorbed by organism, possesses carcinogenic action and it can also disrupt the work of the brain. In a 1992 study that made front-page headlines, and was reported on in the July issue of the American Journal of Public Health researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee found that people who regularly drink tap water containing high levels of chlorine by-products. Tap water has Chlorine, and combines with organic chemicals to form a category of toxic pollutants called THM's or trihalomethanes, which have a greater risk of developing bladder and rectal cancers than people who drink unchlorinated water.
